Tura, March 16 -- The Meghalaya police on Monday arrested Sofior Rahman, a former member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), in connection with the recent violence in West Garo Hills district that left two people dead and several others injured.
Rahman was arrested from his residence at New Bhaitbari under Rajabala Police Station in West Garo Hills district by a special team from Tura Police Station in the wee hours today.
Multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have reportedly been filed against Rahman and former legislator S. G. Esmatur Mominin, accusing them of making inflammatory statements and allegedly provoking actions that contributed to the communal disturbances in the region.
