Guwahati, July 17 -- One person died in police firing while several others including policemen were injured today after the ongoing eviction drive at Paikan in Goalpara district turned violent.
The incident took place today when a group of people, who had been living there despite the eviction drive last Saturday, clashed with a team of police and forest department officials who had gone there to carry out the eviction drive.
Police said that a mob attacked them with pelting stones when the police and forest teams have reached there to carry out the eviction drive.
