Berlin, Sept. 11 -- The east German state of Saxony-Anhalt could face a freeze in EU funding after the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) won a landslide victory in last week's regional election, German broadcaster ARD reported.
The AfD won 43.8% of the vote, making it by far the strongest party in the eastern German state. The party has long clashed with Berlin and Brussels over issues including migration.
The EU has previously frozen funding in disputes with member states such as Hungary and Poland.
Saxony-Anhalt is due to receive €2.95 billion ($3.43 billion) from the EU's 2021-27 budget for projects including school and nursery renovations and modern medical equipment for hospitals. According to ARD, the state receives mo...
