Brussels, Feb. 23 -- The European union has failed to secure the backing of the US and other G7 members for launching another package of sanctions against Russian oil shipments, a diplomatic source in Brussels told TASS, with EU Foreign Policy Minister Kaja Kallas stating that member nations failed to agree over greenlighting the sanctions package.
According to the source, the European Commission presented a plan to Washington and its G7 partners that would effectively bar European companies from transporting Russian oil or providing maintenance, financing, insurance and other services to tankers carrying it, regardless of the vessels' flag.
The Commission also invited partners to adopt similar restrictions on their own firms.
