Canberra, March 24 -- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Tuesday urged the United States and Iran to immediately enter negotiations to end hostilities in the Middle East and ease the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking after signing a landmark free trade agreement in Canberra alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, von der Leyen said the escalating conflict was disrupting global energy supplies and driving up oil and gas prices.
