Mahabubnagar, Nov. 27 -- A fatal road accident on National Highway 167N near Pilligundu in Hanwada mandal in this district triggered panic on Thursday after an ethanol tanker and an iron-laden lorry collided, causing a massive fire.
Police said the ethanol tanker, travelling from Telangana's Mahabubnagar, crashed into a lorry coming from Tandur in the opposite direction. The tanker erupted into flames instantly, leaving the driver charred to death. Locals managed to pull out the lorry driver and alerted authorities.
Firefighters and police personnel battled the blaze for nearly three hours, deploying three fire engines to bring it under control. Mahabubnagar District SP Janaki inspected the site and reviewed rescue efforts.
