Chennai, May 14 -- Coming to the aid of the Textile and apparel industry already hit hard by the US tariffs and higher costs of cotton, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK Founder C Joseph Vijay, in his first ever communication to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening urged him to ensure duty free cotton imports by totally removing it from the present 11 per cent to zero, besides avaialbility of raw materials to enable them to remain globally competitive and enhance exports and protect jobs of lakhs of people in the sector.
