Agartala, July 17 -- Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) has ordered a probe into allegations of inflated electricity bills in some areas after the installation of smart meters.
There are allegations that some meter readers indulged in corruption, deliberately misreading traditional meter boxes in cohoots with a section of consumers, and as soon as smart meter was installed the actual consumption of power reflected in the bills.
Power Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, today said soon after some consumers raised allegations against TSECL that smart meter was giving exorbitant reading, verification was carried out in few places and it was found that the billed power consumption and actual meter reading have massive mismatch.
