Mumbai, June 29 -- The Maharashtra Legislative Council is set to hold the election for the post of Deputy Chairman on July 1, 2026, at 1:00 pm.

Council Chairman Ram Shinde announced the election schedule, officially setting the stage for filling the vacancy.

With the Mahayuti coalition holding a majority in the Upper House, the post is widely expected to go to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. Under the current power-sharing arrangement within the ruling alliance, while the BJP holds the Chairman's post, the Deputy Chairman's position has been earmarked for the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) to maintain the coalition's balance.
