Lucknow, April 7 -- In a shocking case of cyber fraud in the Krishnanagar area, a 78-year-old woman was allegedly duped of Rs 8 lakh by fraudsters posing as police officials and placing her under so-called "digital arrest", police said on Tuesday.
According to the complaint, the victim, Veena Khurana, a resident of Kanpur Road in Lucknow, received a call on March 4 around 1:40 PM.
The caller identified himself as Sub-Inspector Vivek Chauhan from the Lucknow Police Headquarters.
He falsely claimed that a suspicious SIM card had been issued using her Aadhaar details and was being used in terrorist activities.
The fraudster further alleged that the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad had arrested a suspect in Mumbai who possessed the SIM link...
