Mumbai, June 5 -- Amidst allegations by opposition parties that many candidates withdrew their nominations in a sell-out to the ruling dispensation, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday expressed confidence that the Mahayuti alliance will make a clean sweep in the upcoming Legislative Council elections winning all 17 seats.

Responding to Opposition allegations that financial inducements were used to facilitate the withdrawals of rival candidates, Shinde dismissed the claims as baseless. "These candidates are sensible. They assessed their own support base against the strength of the Mahayuti and chose to support a winning coalition to ensure development in their respective regions," he said.
