Ghazipur, Oct. 26 -- In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old boy drowned in the Gomti river in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh casting a shadow over the Chhath festivities.

The incident took place while women were preparing ritual platforms (bedis) for the Chhath festival on the riverbank near Amehta village. At the same time, six village children, including Aviral and his 10-year-old sister, went into the river to bathe.
