Kolkata, Nov. 4 -- Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Wednesday raided the residence of a businessman at Kamalgazi, on the city's southern fringes, in connection with his alleged involvement in money laundering through the 'hawala' system under the guise of a trading business.

ED sources said the search operation, which began in the morning, was linked to a case registered in Guwahati.

The businessman, Shyamal Byapari, allegedly carried out hawala transactions worth crores of rupees through the internet, using a rice trading business as a front.

With support from central security forces, ED officials conducted simultaneous searches at four locations.
