New Delhi, May 26 -- The Enforcement Directorate (ED)'s Chennai Zonal Office is conducting search operations at five locations in Madurai and Chennai in connection with a drug smuggling syndicate.
The cartel was allegedly involved in smuggling huge quantities of Hashish - 99 kg (estimated market value of Rs 108 crore) - and Methamphetamine (commonly known as ICE drugs) - 37.5 kg (estimated market value of Rs 150 crore) - to Sri Lanka through the sea route.
The ED initiated a money laundering investigation based on two criminal complaints filed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) against John Britto and others under the NDPS Act and the Customs Act.
