Kolkata, April 17 -- The Election Commission of India on Friday appointed Tripura Atharva, a 1998-batch IPS officer, as the Commissioner of Police for Bidhannagar.
Atharva was previously serving as Director of the West Bengal government's Directorate of Economic Offences. Once Atharva takes charge, he will replace Murlidhar Sharma as Commissioner of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, which oversees law enforcement in Salt Lake airport, Rajarhat and places off VIP Road.
In March, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had placed on hold the transfer orders of Sharma and four other IPS officers.
According to the transfer directive Atharva has been instructed to take charge as police commissioner on Saturday within 11 am.
