New Delhi, Oct. 27 -- The Election Commission of India today announced the launch of the crucial second phase of its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, targeting 12 states and union Territories.
Announcing at a press conference about the massive updating effort, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said the initiative underscores the Commission's firm commitment to ensuring a clean and accurate voter database.
The second phase prioritises states heading toward elections, specifically West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry. The overarching goal of the SIR is to "update and clean up" the rolls, ensuring that only eligible citizens are accurately reflected on the voter list.
