Kolkata, March 20 -- : The ongoing transfer of senior bureaucrats and police officials from West Bengal by the Election Commission has now reached the Calcutta High Court, with a plea challenging the poll panel's authority to send officers to other states on election duty.
Senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee drew the court's attention to the issue, arguing that the Election Commission does not have the jurisdiction to transfer top-ranking IAS and IPS officers outside the state in this manner.
He contended that such moves disrupt the normal functioning of the state administration. The matter is set to be formally raised through a public interest litigation (PIL) by Trinamool Congress lawyer Arka Nag.
