Kolkata, Jan. 21 -- In a significant development, the Election Commission has sought a detailed report from the West Bengal Chief Secretary within the next 72 hours on what action has been taken against four state officers accused of illegally enrolling names in the electoral rolls, and has also asked the details of the departments which failed to implement its directives.
The Commission has instructed that the report be submitted by 5 pm on January 24.
In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary on Wednesday, the Commission made it clear that it was standing firm on its earlier decisions, despite objections raised by the state government.
