Kolkata, Jan. 22 -- : In a major development, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the Murshidabad district administration to lodge an FIR on Thursday against Trinamool Congress MLA Manirul Islam in connection with the vandalism at the Farakka BDO office earlier this month.
The Commission asked the District Magistrate, who is also the District Election Officer (DEO), to ensure that the FIR is registered by 5 PM on Thursday.
The directive stems from an incident on January 14, when Islam, accompanied by supporters, reached the Farakka BDO office and raised slogans rejecting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
