Kolkata, Sept. 12 -- The Election Commission heard representatives of the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction and the Kalighat camp led by Mamata Banerjee over the control of the Trinamool Congress name and the party's twin-flower symbol, with the issue becoming urgent ahead of the October 6 bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar.

Both factions appeared before the poll panel with five-member delegations on Saturday and claimed to be the legitimate Trinamool Congress.

The commission is expected to decide which faction will be allowed to use the party's existing name and symbol in the upcoming bypolls.

The last date for filing nominations is September 16, while counting will take place on October 9.
