Hyderabad, March 12 -- Doctors at Kamineni Hospitals, LB Nagar, called for greater awareness and early detection of kidney diseases on the occasion of World Kidney Day, observing that nearly one in ten people worldwide suffer from kidney-related ailments.

Speaking at an awareness programme organised at the hospital on Thursday, Senior Consultant Nephrologist Dr A Santosh Kumar said lack of awareness in India often leads to late detection of kidney disease, with many patients diagnosed only at an advanced stage.

He urged people not to risk their lives due to misconceptions about dialysis and kidney transplantation, noting that with timely treatment and modern medical care, patients can lead normal and fulfilling lives.
