Bhubaneswar, July 25 -- The drilling of the first appraisal well, MN-DWN18-1-HD, in the Mahanadi Offshore Basin commenced on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in India's efforts to strengthen domestic energy production and reduce dependence on hydrocarbon imports.
The well is the first of four planned deepwater appraisal wells that will systematically assess the hydrocarbon potential of the Mahanadi Offshore Basin, considered one of India's most promising offshore exploration regions.
