New York, Aug. 28 -- In a setback for British tennis, Jack Draper, the 2024 US Open semifinalist, pulled out of the 2025 US Open men's singles competition today due to injury.

The fifth seed entered this year's tournament with high expectations after a strong 2024 season, but his campaign was cut short despite beginning with a hard-fought victory.

Draper edged past Argentine qualifier Federico Agustin Gomez in the opening round, surviving a testing four-set battle 6-4, 7-5, 6-7, 6-2. The Briton looked in discomfort during parts of the match but managed to hold on with his baseline consistency and aggressive serving.

Draper was slated to take on Belgium's Zizou Bergs in the second round today.
