Kakinada, June 29 -- : Viswa Vignana Vidya Adhyathmika Peetham chief Dr Umar Alisha on Monday called upon farmers to transform themselves into agricultural scientists and entrepreneurs, saying they are the backbone of the nation.

Marking the traditional Yeruvaka Pournima festival, Dr Alisha, dressed in traditional farmer's attire, personally ploughed agricultural land at the Peetham's main Ashram, symbolically inaugurating the farming season.

Later, while presiding over the Sasya Vruddhi Beejaropana Mahotsav, he said it has been a long-standing tradition to commence agricultural activities on Yeruvaka Pournima by worshipping cows, revered as mothers in Indian culture.
