Pyongyang, April 15 -- North Korea's nuclear programme is accelerating at a pace that has raised fresh alarm, with the head of the UN's atomic watchdog warning of a "very serious increase" in the country's weapons production capacity.
Speaking in Seoul, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi said recent monitoring points to a sharp uptick in activity at key nuclear sites, particularly the Yongbyon complex - long considered the backbone of Pyongyang's atomic programme.
"In our periodic assessments, we have been able to confirm that there's a rapid increase in the operations of the Yongbyon reactor," Grossi said, noting that multiple parts of the facility appear to be running at heightened levels.
