Shimla, March 19 -- Doctors' recruitment triggered a heated discussion in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Thursday, with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, trading barbs.

During the discussion, Sukhu announced that within the next six months no Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the state would remain without doctors.

He said the government had already recruited 162 doctors, while the recruitment process for another 236 doctors was underway.

Replying to a question raised by BJP MLA (Sunder Nagar) Rakesh Jamwal, the Chief Minister said that 2,337 posts of doctors and 683 posts of specialist doctors were sanctioned in the Health Department.
