Chennai, Aug. 3 -- Lambasting the Vijay sarkar for deceiving farmers with false promises, the principal Opposition DMK on Monday staged a protest demonstration in Thanjavur, the rice bowl of Tamil Nadu, targetting the government over the Cauvery river water and Mekedatu dam issues, and highlighting the delta districts farmers' inability to take up Kuruvai crop cultivation due to non-release of waters from the Mettur dam for irrigation and Karnataka's refusal to release waters, defying the orders of the CWMA.
Today's demonstration was to have coincided with Chief Minister Vijay's meeting with his Karnataka counterpart DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru in a bid to find a negotiated settlement to the vexed Mekedatu dam and Cauvery river water issues...
