Imphal, July 16 -- Over 100 persons, mostly women, whose houses were burnt by suspected Kuki militants, tried to reach their villages at Dolaithabi and surrounding areas of Manipur, but were stopped by security personnel to avert any possible attack by the ultras today.

A woman said she came to know that all houses belonging to a particular community were burnt and destroyed. She said she simply wants to see her village and there is no possibility of living in the village as new houses have to be completed.

Police said about 100 displaced villagers from Doilaithabi, currently residing in a relief camp near Sajiwa, moved towards Doilaithabi with the intent to return to their native village. As the area lies in a sensitive fringe zone, they...
