Bengaluru, May 25 -- Defence expert Gurcharanjit Singh on Monday said that the ongoing standoff between Iran and the United States is unlikely to see any major breakthrough in the near term, with both sides currently engaged in a sustained pressure-based strategy ahead of the US mid-term election cycle.

He identified Iran's uranium enrichment programme as the central point of contention in the dispute, stating that it remains deeply tied to Tehran's strategic identity and the influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

"Iran is unlikely to dilute its position on enrichment, as it is viewed as a core element of national pride and security policy," Singh told UNI in an interview.
