Leeds, March 4 -- Habib Diarra converted a second-half penalty as Sunderland A.F.C. edged Leeds United F.C. 1-0 in a low-scoring Premier League encounter at Elland Road on Tuesday.
Referee Stuart Attwell awarded the decisive spot-kick after adjudging Ethan Ampadu to have handled the ball following a VAR review, as per the Premier League website.
Diarra's 70th-minute effort had just enough power to beat goalkeeper Karl Darlow, despite the latter getting a strong hand to it.
The penalty proved to be Sunderland's only shot on target in a contest short on clear opportunities. Leeds had earlier seen Joe Rodon's header ruled out for offside, while Anton Stach forced a sharp save from debutant goalkeeper Melker Ellborg.
