Varanasi, May 31 -- Demolition work began on Sunday to widen Varanasi's famous Dal Mandi Road.

Around 300 police and PAC personnel have been deployed throughout the area. Drones are also monitoring the entire area. Barricades have also been erected on both sides of the road.

Public Works Department (PWD) Executive Engineer KK Singh stated that 14 identified buildings are to be demolished. A total of 181 buildings have been identified, of which demolition work on approximately 100 has been nearly completed. Debris removal is also progressing rapidly.
