Lucknow, Sept. 5 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Rai on Saturday said the demolition of the 1911 mosque in the Saharanpur Collectorate complex was "extremely sad and shameful".
"The politics of hatred and division does not strengthen society, but rather weakens social harmony and brotherhood," he alleged.
Rai said in a statement here that the Congress Party clearly believes that justice should be provided to every religion, every community, and every citizen in Uttar Pradesh.
"The BJP government must understand that religious buildings can be demolished with bulldozers, but the voice of democracy and the rights of the people cannot be suppressed," he said.
