Hubballi, Oct. 11 -- union Minister Pralhad Joshi, speaking at the 'Narendra Mohan Smriti Lecture' and the 'Sahitya Srishti Samman' ceremony here, said that demographic changes in certain regions are driven by infiltration and not the natural population growth of communities.

Joshi said that these shifts over the last decade have "undeniably altered the balance" in some areas.

He pointed specifically to Assam, where nine districts have seen significant demographic changes over the past 10-20 years.

"The balance has changed, the balance has tilted," he told reporters here.

Explaining the reasons, Joshi said rapid population growth combined with illegal infiltration is responsible for these changes.
