Pune, Sept. 4 -- The demand for a permanent and stringent ban on the use of high-powered DJ and Dolby sound systems during public festivals across Maharashtra is justified, as excessive noise poses serious and potentially life-threatening health risks to citizens, said Republican Party of India (RPI) state vice-president Dr Hulgesh Chalwadi.
Dr Chalwadi said that as soon as high-powered DJ systems are switched on, sound levels can reportedly rise to 100-130 decibels or more, far exceeding permissible limits of 55-75 decibels.
According to reports of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, more than 90 per cent of urban areas are exposed to high levels of noise pollution during festival periods for several consecutive years.
