New Delhi, Jan. 4 -- The return of calmer winds in the national capital region worsened the air quality, taking it back to the 'very poor' category after a brief relief of two days.
On Sunday, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) value touched 307, higher than the previous day's reading of 267, according to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board's 4 p.m. national bulletin.
Experts attributed the declining air quality to low wind surface speeds, which prevented the dispersion of pollutants near the surface.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) 1 p.m. bulletin, wind speeds of 11 kmph prevailed over Delhi during the past 24 hours.
