New Delhi, Nov. 13 -- The Delhi Cabinet, in its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved a policy to provide compassionate employment to the dependants of those who lost their lives in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Announcing details of the Cabinet decision, Gupta has said that the new policy marks a concrete step towards expediting long-pending cases of employment assistance that remained unresolved since the cabinet decision of 2007.

According to the CM, a key feature of the new policy is that dependants of the victims, who are now above 50 years of age and unable to take up employment will have the option to nominate a member of the next generation such as a son, daughter, daughter-in-law, or son-in-law for the job.
