New Dekhi, May 26 -- Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav today accused the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of preparing to impose fines and intensify action against street vendors in the national capital, alleging that lakhs of poor vendors are facing harassment and extortion by civic authorities and police.

Addressing a press conference, Yadav claimed that more than five lakh street vendors in Delhi, including those selling fruits, vegetables and daily-use items, have not been granted final vending licences despite provisions under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, enacted during the Congress-led UPA government.
