Parbhani, Nov. 4 -- A senior Congress leader has accused the Maharashtra government of intentionally delaying Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections due to fears that rural discontent would translate into unfavourable voting results.
District Congress Committee president and former MLA Babajani Durrani alleged that the administration announced only local body elections while postponing the first phase of rural polls to avoid facing anger from the rural electorate.
Reacting to the State Election Commission's announcement of the local body polling schedule, Durrani said the opposition fully expected that Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections would also be declared at this time.
