Chennai, Aug. 5 -- Tamil Nadu government will take up restoration of degraded mangrove forests, which protects coastlines from natural diasters like tsunami and strengthen coastal ecosystems, in eight districts under TN-SHORE project, Finance Minister N.Marie Wilson informed the State Assembly on Wednesday.

Presenting the TVK regime's first budget, he said Mangrove forests protect coastlines from erosion, cyclones, sea-level rise and other coastal hazards, while conserving biodiversity, enhancing fisheries resources, sequestering carbon, and supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities.
