Thiruvananthapuram, June 26 -- Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram on Friday urged the State and union Governments to declare the entire Madayippara plateau in Kannur district a Protected Heritage Zone, citing its exceptional ecological, archaeological, cultural and spiritual significance.

The demand was made through a resolution adopted at the State Committee meeting of the organisation held in Thiruvananthapuram. The resolution called for bringing the entire stretch of Madayippara-including the sacred Madayikkavu (Thiruvarkattu Bhagavathi Temple), the remains of the historic Madayi Fort, and Joodakkulam-under a unified protected heritage framework.
