Chitradurga, Dec. 26 -- The toll in the Chitradurga bus blaze climbed to seven on Friday with the death of the injured bus driver during treatment, according to police.

The driver, Mohammed Rafique, had suffered severe injuries in the accident that took place in the early hours of Thursday. After receiving initial medical care, he was referred to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences in Hubballi for advanced treatment.

Police said Rafique passed away on Friday morning despite doctors performing emergency surgery.

The mishap occurred when a fast-moving truck collided with a sleeper bus, causing it to catch fire instantly. Six passengers died at the scene, with most victims being burnt to death, officials said.
