New Delhi, April 10 -- In an effective push for monsoon preparedness, national capital's Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Verma on Friday conducted an extensive on-site inspection of the ongoing de-silting operations at two critical drains, including near the Delhi Gate and the Barapulla drain. Notably, the Delhi Gate drain, covered with slabs for nearly 40 years, is now being fully opened for thorough cleaning.
The long-covered structure had previously hampered proper de-silting, causing repeated waterlogging in surrounding areas.
The Minister informed that over 70% of de-silting at the Delhi Gate drain is complete, with more than 21,000 metric tonnes of silt removed so far.
