Srinagar, April 27 -- Ladakh will get five new districts-Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass-taking the total to seven, in a move aimed at boosting governance and development in the union Territory.

The notification for the new districts was approved a day after the Centre announced talks with Ladakh leaders on May 22, signalling renewed engagement with stakeholders in the region.

The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, termed it a "historic day" aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a developed and prosperous Ladakh.
