Santiniketan, July 22 -- After a hiatus of over 14 years, the West Bengal government has reinforced the ban on movement of heavy vehicles from dawn to dusk in the Unesco Cultural Heritage tag site of Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan, located in Birbhum district and declared it as a no-honking zone.
The move follows long-standing complaints from residents regarding administrative inaction. Every day, numerous sand dumpers and trucks transporting heavy construction materials like bricks and stone chips cross the ashram area. This continuous heavy traffic has severely damaged local roads and heightened the risk of serious accidents.
