Srinagar, Sept. 4 -- The Jammu & Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (J&KLCMA) today said the gates at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar may be opened at any time to regulate the rising waters of the Jhelum, which has crossed the danger mark of 21 feet.
The Authority has asked Dal Lake inhabitants and houseboat owners to remain vigilant and be prepared to shift to relief centres in case of any emergency.
Officials said the move, aimed at easing pressure on the river still flowing above the danger level in Srinagar, had been taken in the past when excess water was diverted into Dal Lake to prevent the Jhelum from overflowing and inundating the city.
