Sultanpur, March 5 -- Cyber criminals allegedly posed as officials of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and attempted to digitally detain BJP MLC Shailendra Pratap Singh for nearly one hour and 45 minutes in an effort to extort money. However, the fraud attempt ultimately failed.
According to Cyber Crime Police Station in-charge Akhanddev Mishra, the incident occurred on March 2 between 12:22 pm and 1:39 pm. During this time, Singh received a phone call from an individual who claimed to be an officer from the ATS Crime Branch in Mumbai.
During the video call, the caller appeared in a police uniform to make the claim look convincing and to gain the MLC's trust.
