Bhubaneswar, July 25 -- Doctors at SUM Ultimate Medicare here successfully saved the life of a 10-month-old baby by removing a custard apple seed that had become lodged deep inside the child's right main bronchus, causing severe respiratory distress.
Hospital sources said on Saturday that the infant was rushed to the hospital gasping for breath after accidentally inhaling the seed. A chest X-ray revealed complete opacification of the right lung due to total blockage of the right main bronchus, making it a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate intervention.
