Ranchi, May 20 -- Researchers from the Department of Energy Engineering at the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) have developed an eco-friendly dye for solar cells using petals of the Mirabilis Jalapa flower, commonly known as the Four O'Clock flower or Gulabbas.
The research team used dye extracted from the flower petals to develop Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs), also known as Gratzel cells, which convert solar energy into electricity.
Lead researcher Dr Basudev Pradhan said the team achieved a power conversion efficiency of 0.61 per cent with stability up to 250 hours. He added that quantum chemical calculations of six major dye components showed potential efficiency ranging from 13.9 per cent to 20.8 per cent for individual com...
