Ranchi, Nov. 8 -- A CRPF sniffer dog was martyred and its handler was seriously injured in an IED blast triggered by Naxals during an anti-Naxal operation in the Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum district on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the dense forest under Chhotanagra police station limits, where a joint team of security forces was conducting a search operation.

Officials said the IED detonated suddenly during the combing patrol, killing the service dog on the spot and injuring its handler. The injured CRPF jawan was immediately given first aid and later shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
