Hyderabad, April 6 -- The CPI (M) Telangana State Committee on Monday urged the State Government to immediately curb the alleged illegal collection of excess fees by private medical colleges and ensure refunds to affected students.

In a statement, State Secretary John Wesley alleged that several colleges are charging fees for five years instead of the prescribed four-and-a-half-year course, placing an additional burden of about Rs 209 crore on parents.

He claimed that Rs 11.5 lakh is being collected from over 2,000 students under Category B, while Rs 23-26 lakh is being charged from hundreds of students under Category C. Despite a directive from the KNRUHS Registrar prohibiting such collections, the practice continues, he said.
